Facts About Brookesia peyrierasi
Brookesia peyrierasi, popularly known as Peyrieras's pygmy chameleon, is a diminutive chameleon species belonging to the family Chamaeleonidae. This tiny reptile is indigenous to northeastern Madagascar and is named in honor of the herpetologist André Peyriéras.
In 1999, a study published in the Journal of Zoology disputed a 1995 paper which had argued that Brookesia peyrierasi and B. tuberculata were the same species as B. minima. The 1999 study highlighted several subtle yet significant differences, such as variations in their hemipenises, head crests, and small spines above their eyes. These distinctions led researchers to conclude that these chameleons are indeed separate species.
