When Is the Best Time To Visit Malta?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Malta depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Climate of Malta
Malta is located in the subtropical Mediterranean climate zone, which is characterized by hot summers and very mild winters.
Summer lasts from July to August. Temperatures during these months are at their highest, reaching 28°C - 34°C during the day and about 23°C at night. A warm wind blowing from the African continent (Sirocco) can cause temperatures to rise as high as around 40°C. Days are sunny and rainless, and there can be periodic droughts.
Winter covers the period from November to March, with temperatures then hovering around 16°C during the day and 10°C at night. There may also be stronger winds (mistral) bringing cooler air and storms at sea.
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are also warm. Temperatures generally do not drop below 20°C.
From mid-May, the water in the Mediterranean reaches temperatures above 20°C and this condition persists until October.
Rain falls relatively infrequently in Malta, only 600 mm a year. Its greatest intensity occurs in the winter and late autumn months. In spring and summer, rain is rather rare. Snowfall is generally absent.
