The Rio Grande darter is a small fish native to the lower Rio Grande drainage in the United States and Mexico. They typically inhabit riffles—shallow sections of streams where the water flows swiftly over gravel or rocky substrates. Although they can grow up to approximately 6 cm in length, the majority of these fish reach only about 3 cm.
