The museum shows the visitor objects of the Olmec, Mayan, Zoque and Nahua cultures that settled in the territory of the current state of Tabasco. This cultural precinct was seriously damaged during the flood of Tabasco in 2007, when the waters of the Grijalva River penetrated inside the museum affecting its infrastructure, causing it to be closed to the public for four years, until December 21, 2011 when it reopened its doors with a new comprehensive remodeling.
