The Parque Museo La Venta is an open-air museum located in the city of Villahermosa in the state of Tabasco, Mexico that treasures one of the largest collections of pieces belonging to the Olmec culture, discovered in the pre-Hispanic city of La Venta. This site was designed, organized and assembled by the Tabasco poet Carlos Pellicer, its inauguration took place on March 4, 1958, and it is the only open-air museum in Latin America.
The museum has an extension of 6.8 hectares in which a collection of 33 archaeological monuments between altars, stelae, colossal heads and 33 monoliths dating from the years 1300 to 200 BC and complement its content about 421 species of live fauna, including mammals, birds and reptiles, in addition to the representative flora of this tropical region. The park organizes guided tours, painting workshops for children, conferences, book presentations and art contests. It has a multipurpose room, interactive kiosk, craft shop and cafeteria, in addition to a modern light and sound show that is presented at night.
