Biserica Armenească, Bălţi
Facts and practical information
The Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator in Balti was built in 1910-1914 by Alexandr Krasnoselski. This original design represents a stylization of medieval Armenian mass architecture. The church is built of traditional materials - lime and rough stone. The height of the building is 16.8 m. It is based on a square plan with two pentagonal apses to the south and north and a semicircular one to the east. To the east, the ensemble is completed by a bell tower with three spires. The main nave has four massive columns on which the octagonal dome tower rests. The multi-storey roof is covered with red pottery. On the outside the walls are variously decorated, with finished stone used in combination with unfinished stone. Since the design shows a stylization of Armenian mass architecture, the church was named after the Armenian-Gregorian style. Currently this church is not functioning.
