Season and weather by month
December - February
Dec | Jan | Feb |
December to February is the low season (winter) in Nepal. The weather is cold the entire day but there is a noticeable temperature difference when shifting from day to night, for example, in some places the temperature ranges from 64°F to 52°F during the day, while at the night the temperature ranges from 41°F to 36°F.
However, the skies are clear and pleasant making it the best season to go on low altitude trekking, and even if you are thinking of skipping it you will be able to see jaw-dropping views of the mountain peaks as there are fewer crowds as well. Sometimes, the trekking routes such as Gokyo Circuit Trek and Everest Base Camp will be closed so it is always better to ask about the status of the routes from your accommodation before planning your itinerary.
You can trek in Everest Base Camp Trek, Langtang Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek, and the Poonhill Trek during the winter. You can also visit places like the Chitwan and Bardia National Parks which are great because of the warm temperatures, and you can enjoy the sightings of elephants, rhinos and birds, among other animals. Make sure to visit Koshi Tappu Reserve if you are a bird-watching enthusiast.
Some of the festivals and events you can enjoy are Christmas Celebrations, New Year's Festival, Maha Shivaratri and Prithvi Jayanti.

March - May
Mar | Apr | May |
March to May is one of the best times to visit Nepal because it is considered to be the spring season. The temperature ranges from 84°F to 75°F in the daytime and 46°F to 59°F in the nighttime. The weather is warm and sunny, but the skies can be a little cloudy not giving that full view of the mountain peaks and surrounding areas. The ice is slowly melting, while the greens are seen everywhere along with colorful flowers in bloom. For example, the Rhododendrons are in full bloom and you can see them mostly in the Pokhara and Namche regions of Nepal.
There will be an increase in the crowds during spring since the weather is favorable to go on trekking and climbing even in the high altitude regions. You can trek in the Manaslu Circuit Trek, Three Passes Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek, Gokyo Ri (which is a high altitude region in Everest) and climb the Island Peak or Mera Peak. You can also visit the Bardia National Park; the weather is warm so the animals come out of their hiding places in search of water. While visiting the park there is a good chance that you will see tigers roaming about among the other animals like elephants, rhinos and monkeys.
Some of the events and festivals you can enjoy are the Holi Festival, Buddha Jayanthi, Ram Navami and Everest Marathon.

June - August
Jun | Jul | Aug |
From June to August/mid-September, Nepal has a monsoon season. It is the summer but these months are considered to be the wettest months of the year. There are rainfalls almost every day. The weather is humid, and the temperatures are ranging from 84°F to 81°F in the daytime and 59°F to 64°F in the nighttime.
Although it is considerably warmer than the previous months, the summer is not suitable for visiting Nepal. But if you don't have a choice then you should remember that with the right preparations it is always possible to do some sightseeing. It is also a great time for those who are looking for cheaper accommodation options. There are lesser crowds as well, and there is a higher chance that you will have most of the places to yourself.
The mountain peaks are obstructed by the clouds and there is a risk of landslides happening in the higher altitude regions so you have to be a little careful during this time. It is best to avoid trekking and climbing in the higher altitudes in June to mid-September. But you can try trekking in either Annapurna Circuit Trek, Manaslu Trek or the Nar Phu Valley Trek. Chitwan, Pokhara, and Bandipur are also lovely at this time of the year due to the scenic views, and if you want to be a little adventurous by trying something other than trekking, visit the Trisuli River and do some white water rafting or any other water-related activity that is available.

September - November
Sep | Oct | Nov |
September to November (fall) is the high season in Nepal. This season marks the end of the monsoonal rains and the weather slowly turns into a favorable one with a lot of sunshine and less humidity. The temperatures are ranging from 81°F to 75°F in the daytime and 64°F to 48°F in the nighttime.
You can expect rains till mid-September, and the trekking routes will be still muddy, some will be inaccessible, but after some time, everything goes back to normal. Massive crowds are seen in the country, and most of them are hikers or climbers who are trying again to be adventurous after a break during the wet season. You will see travelers from all over the world. However, if you are someone looking to have a vacation in isolation this is not the ideal time for you. The accommodation options which include hotels, homestays and treehouses, will be limited so make sure to book everything in advance.
You will have the chance to enjoy spectacular views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, and enjoy all of those popular trekking routes like Everest Base Camp Trek, Langtang Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek, Manaslu Trek or the Nar Phu Valley Trek. You can also explore the exotic wildlife in the Chitwan and Bardia National Parks. For wildlife photographers, this is a good opportunity to capture animals like elephants, tigers, monkeys, rhinos and different types of migratory birds. Discovering amazing cities of Nepal is another interesting thing to do. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan can be visited along with their glorious temples, architectural marvels and historical monuments.
Some of the festivals and events that you can enjoy are Dasain (which last for about two weeks), Mani Rimdu Festival and Tihar, the Nepal version of the Deepavali Festival.
