De Haan, Duiveland
Facts and practical information
De Haan is a former corn mill in Brouwershaven in the Dutch province of Zeeland.
The mill was originally built in 1724 as a low post mill, but curiously was later lowered to a ground sailor. Between 1965 and 1967 the mill was completely restored and also converted into a weekend residence. Part of the original equipment disappeared and only one pair of grinding stones remained. The remaining interior is still present although in a disassembled state. Occasionally the old Dutch raised sails, of which the rods have a length of approximately 22.50 meters, were used. At the moment these rods need to be replaced and the mill is standing still until further notice. The mill is privately owned. In 2019 the rods were replaced and that year in May the mill turned again after 10 years of standing still. The mill remains a recreational property. The intention is to run the mill occasionally for example on National Mill Day and Open Monuments Day.
