't Vliegend Hert, Brielle
Facts and practical information
The mill 't Vliegend Hert on Molenstraat in the Dutch town of Brielle is a standerd mill built in 1985. It stands as a rampart mill on the town's rampart, on the site where a corn mill had stood since the seventeenth century. Until 1696 this was a standerd mill, which was replaced in that year by a stone post mill. That mill burned out in the night of November 2 to 3, 1810 and was rebuilt in 1811. This one also burned out, in 1882. After this the mill was demolished and no new mill was built in its place, until in 1970, during a restoration of the fortress, the stones of the old standerd mill were found. It was decided to build a mill as a replica of the former post mill.
't Vliegend Hert" has three storeys and is therefore a sturdy standerd mill, with a flight of 26.60 m. The mill contains a pair of 17der artificial stones and a pair of 15der blue stones. There is also an electrically driven mixing boiler. The mill is owned by the Brielse Molenstichting 't Vliegend Hert and is open every Friday and the first and third Saturday of the month. Flour is sold in the black mill shed opposite the mill.
