De Kat, Uitgeest
Facts and practical information
The original De Kat/De Zien windmill in the Dutch municipality of Uitgeest was built in 1864 to drain polder De Zien. In 1971, an accidental fire broke out, destroying the mill. The mill was replaced in 1973 by a mill built in Alblasserdam in 1842 at the shipyard J. Smit en Co. as wood sawmill Ons Genoegen. This mill had been demolished in 1952 and donated to the city of Haarlem, with the purpose of replacing the mill De Adriaan which had burned down in 1932.
Owner of De Kat is the foundation Uitgeester & Akersloter Molens. The mill turns regularly and can be visited on Saturdays and by appointment.
