St. Martin's Basilica is located on the Grote Kerkstraat in Venlo. The current ground plan of this three-aisled Gothic hall church was created between 1410 and 1610. The tower has been rebuilt three times and currently has an onion as its crown.

On December 24, 2018, it was announced that St. Martin's Church had been granted the honorary title of basilica minor by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Regulation of the Sacraments on behalf of Pope Francis. The elevation to basilica took place in a proclamation celebration on April 28, 2019.
