Bonifaciuskerk, Medemblik
Facts and practical information
The Bonifacius Church of Medemblik is a Dutch church dating from 1404. A predecessor of the church, whose oldest record dates back to 1118, had gone up in flames shortly before. The church ruins were used in the construction of the new church. The church was originally dedicated to St. Bonifacius, later also to St. Martin. In 1572, after the reformation, the name Bonifacius was used for this Protestant church and Saint Martin became the main patron of the Roman Catholic parish in Medemblik. Despite being affected by two fires, the church was largely preserved. Today the church is in use by the Protestant congregation of Medemblik. The north aisle was used as a theater under the name BON-theater. Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck married in this church in 1590.
