De Hoop, Maassluis
Facts and practical information
Wheatmill De Hoop on the Molenweg in Rozenburg was established in 1887, replacing a mill dating from 1658 that was located on the inside of the Kooilandsedijk. That mill had to disappear in 1887 due to hydraulic works on the Scheur. The new tower mill was in use as a corn mill until the early 1960s. After a period of stagnation and decay, the municipality of Rozenburg bought the mill in 1964 and had it restored from 1966-68. The first floor can be used as a wedding venue. The former miller's house next to the mill is now home to the Antiquities Room of the Historical Society of Old Rozenburg.
The Hoop has an Old Dutch windshield and contains 2 pairs of 14der artificial stones for grinding grain.
The mill can be visited by appointment, among others.
