Onze-Lieve-Vrouw van Altijddurende Bijstandkerk, Roosendaal
Facts and practical information
Our Lady of Perpetual Succession Church is a Roman Catholic church at Kade 23 in Roosendaal.
The church is built in neo-Romanesque and neo-Byzantine style and was designed by Theo Asseler. The building dates from 1868 and was originally the monastery church of the Redemptorist Fathers.
It is a three-aisled cruciform church with 2 towers and a large crossing tower. The towers are both 37 meters high. The crossing tower was added during an enlargement between 1907 and 1909.
The interior is covered by cross-rib vaults with a height of about 18.8 meters. The internal height of the dome vault is 27.7 meters. In addition, the church possesses a Maria chapel, Gerardus chapel and a house chapel in the monastery building. The church used to be part of a Redemptorist monastery. When the monastery was abandoned, the church became a parish church and the monastery became a parish center. The church was used by the Our Lady parish, now this parish has merged with the Emmaus parish and parish the Ark. Together they now form the Sint-Norbertus parish, this parish is for all of Roosendaal and Nispen.
The façade with two-tower front of St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Paramaribo is largely derived from that of Our Lady of Perpetual Succession Church.
Since 2001, the church has replaced St. John's Church as the center church of Roosendaal. The Redemptorists left the city in 2003.
