The Hogeweyk, operated by the Vivium Zorggroep, is a nursing home designed as a community for people with dementia in Weesp, Netherlands. It has been designed specifically as a pioneering care facility for elderly people with dementia. The Hogeweyk opened in 2009 and is known as the first dementia village in the world. The leading principle is offering a normal daily life and to de-institutionalise traditional long-term care. Carers, doctors and nurses work around the clock to provide the 169 residents the necessary 24-hour care. Nursing home Hogewey is the former name before the nursing home transformed into the community The Hogeweyk. ()
