Molen I, Heusden
Facts and practical information
Mill I is one of the three walmills still standing on the ramparts of the Dutch town of Heusden.
The construction of the current mill, standing on the site of a former standerd mill on the mill bastion at the city harbor, began in 1971. An old standerd mill from Lommel was used in the construction. Construction was completed in early 1972 and on March 22 of that year the then Secretary of State Henk Vonhoff inaugurated the first of the three newly built standerd mills.
Mill I stands near the drawbridge over the city harbor that was filled in when the Maas was diverted in 1904, but was restored in 1968.
Mill II stands 100 m north. Mill III stands a little further away.
The mill no longer grinds, but still runs regularly 'for the prince'. When it is running, usually on Saturday and/or Sunday, the mill can be visited.
