Windmill 'De Goliath'
Facts and practical information
The Goliath is a polder mill near Eemshaven in the Dutch province of Groningen.
The mill dates from 1897 and is the northernmost mill on the Dutch mainland. The Goliath no longer has a function, but it once drained the Eemspolder. However, the mill can grind the water around in a circuit. The mill was fitted with a new sails in 2006 and is again ready for grinding.
Until 2003 the mill was officially part of the town Uithuizermeeden, since then the mill has a new postal address with the place name Eemshaven. The mill is owned by the Foundation for the Management and Preservation of the Poldermolen Complex De Goliath. Thanks to the enthusiastic miller Ida Wierenga-Spijk the mill has become a household word in the Northern Netherlands and even far beyond.
