Facts About Brown skink
The brown skink, a species indigenous to New Zealand, is quite prevalent and can be observed in various locales. In the North Island, it ranges from Taranaki to Wellington, while in the South Island, it is found in the Marlborough Sounds, Nelson, and Westland.
In 2010, the IUCN Red List categorized the brown skink as Least Concern, indicating it was not at immediate risk of extinction. However, by 2012, the Department of Conservation had a different assessment. They classified it as "At Risk - Declining" under New Zealand's Threat Classification System, suggesting a need for more vigilant monitoring of its population trends.
