Kepler Track, Te Anau

Nestled in the heart of New Zealand's South Island, the Kepler Track offers a stunning opportunity to explore the rugged wilderness of Fiordland National Park. Starting near the picturesque town of Te Anau, this 60-kilometer loop is one of New Zealand's Great Walks, a status that promises well-maintained trails and awe-inspiring landscapes.

The Kepler Track takes adventurers through a diverse array of environments, from the serene shores of Lake Te Anau to the alpine splendor of the Luxmore Range. Hikers can expect to traverse lush beech forests, cross burbling streams, and navigate open ridgelines that offer panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Typically completed over 3 to 4 days, the track presents a moderate to challenging trek, suitable for those with a reasonable level of fitness. Accommodation along the way comes in the form of comfortable huts and well-positioned campsites, managed by the Department of Conservation. These must be booked in advance, particularly during the peak season from October to April.

One of the highlights of the Kepler Track is the Luxmore Cave, a small limestone cave near the Luxmore Hut that can be explored with the aid of a torch. Additionally, the diverse birdlife, including the cheeky kea, New Zealand's alpine parrot, adds a unique element to the experience.
