Struga Poetry Evenings

Struga Poetry Evenings is a distinguished international poetry festival that illuminates Struga, North Macedonia, each year. Since its modest inception in 1961, the festival has evolved into a significant cultural event, attracting poets, translators, essayists, and literary critics from around the globe. One of the festival's most esteemed accolades is the Golden Wreath award, which has been bestowed upon literary luminaries such as Pablo Neruda, Seamus Heaney, and Joseph Brodsky.

The festival is more than just an awards ceremony; it is a vibrant celebration of poetry. Over the years, it has expanded to encompass a variety of events, including poetry readings, workshops, and discussions. Additional honors, such as the Miladinov Brothers Award for the best poetry book published between festivals and The Bridges of Struga award for debut poetry books by young authors, contribute to the festival's prominence.

A Festival Board, comprised of poetry experts, oversees the event, ensuring a rich and diverse program. Activities are held in various locations around Struga and even in nearby cities like Ohrid. The festival culminates at the Bridge of Poetry, where the prestigious awards are presented in a grand closing ceremony.
