Torghatten

Torghatten, a remarkable mountain located on the coast of central Norway, is famed for its distinctive hole that pierces right through its heart. This natural tunnel, created during the Ice Age, measures 160 meters long, 35 meters high, and 20 meters wide, providing a unique geological phenomenon that draws visitors from around the globe.

Rising 258 meters above sea level, Torghatten is not just a marvel for geologists but also a magnet for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The mountain and its iconic hole are steeped in legend, with local folklore attributing its creation to the mythical Hestmannen, who, in a fit of rage, loosed an arrow to destroy a beautiful maiden. The troll-king of the Sømna mountains, however, intervened by throwing his hat in the arrow's path, which turned into the mountain with a hole.

Today, Torghatten is easily accessible to the public, with a well-trodden path leading up to and through the tunnel, allowing for a truly immersive experience. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding archipelago and the rugged landscape from the mountain's summit or through the hole itself.
