The square is a cultural center on Gørvellplassen in Molde. The house is a collaborative project between Moldejazz, the Theater Vårt, the Bjørnson Festival, Molde Library and Møre and Romsdal Art Center. It was completed in 2012 and was officially opened on July 14 of that year. The house is designed by the Danish architectural firm 3xn.
The largest hall has 207 permanent seating in Amfi. The hall can easily be converted to over 300 seats. A smaller hall has a capacity of up to 170 seats. In addition, both the cafe and other areas, including the large roof area and the stairs east of the square, are used for various events.
The project has been known in the media under terms such as "Jazz and Theater House" and "Theater Jazz House". On March 10, 2011, it was announced that the house will be called the place. The name has aroused reactions: Sylfest Lomheim is among those who have stated negatively about the name choice. The house cost NOK 195 million in 2010 prices.
