Vilvite, Bergen

Vilvite is a science center at Møhlen Prize in one of Mjellem & Karlsen shipyards previous workshop halls. The science center had previously adjacent to Bergen University College, but moved in 2007 into new premises. The center opened here on 31 May 2007.

Vilvite is a result of, among other things, that Norsk Hydro through a sponsorship agreement in connection with its 100th anniversary in 2005, NOK 100 million was available to establish "a modern importance center of international class". The commitment has been taken over by Statoil after the merger between the two companies. The center has an interactive exhibition with the main focus on sea, weather and energy, but also has exhibition objects related to other themes. During the main themes, it is especially focused on oil, gas and climate research. These three themes link the center to Bergen and Vestlandet's distinctive character.

In addition to these, the topics are body, creativity and waves represented among a total of 75 appliances and experiments. The center also organizes "research courses" for children and young people and popular science lectures on weekends. The center is facilitated for school classes and school visits. The center passed 50,000 visitors after 4 months, and 110,000 after one year.

Additional revenues for the center are the rental of premises to conferences, arranging birthday celebrations and sales of toys and the like. in their own shop.
