When Is the Best Time To Visit Paraguay?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Paraguay depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Climate of Paraguay
Paraguay lies in a tropical climate zone, which has a humid variety in the east of the country and a dry variety in the west. Considering the weather occurring throughout the year, in most areas there are two distinct seasons: dry and rainy.
The dry season lasts from April to September, with temperatures reaching 15°C - 23°C, and rainfall is sporadic. A characteristic feature is the large diurnal temperature fluctuations. Days are warm, while at night the temperature can drop sharply.
The rainy season lasts from October to March, and it is also the hottest time of the year. Temperatures rise to 30°C - 38°C, and increased rainfall causes high humidity.
In Paraguay, two major regions have slightly different climates, and the seasons that occur are shaped somewhat differently.
The Chaco region, which covers the western area of the country, is one of Paraguay's driest and hottest areas. Hot equatorial fronts arrive here, raising daytime air temperatures as high as 30°C - 35°C (the highest recorded temperature was 47°C). There are also rapid cooldowns brought by winds called "Pamperos," in which case the mercury bar can drop even below 0°C. The rains are not very abundant and reach 700 mm - 1000 mm per year.
The Parana highlands, which lie in the eastern part of the country, are somewhat cooler and wetter. Summer temperatures average 27°C, and winter temperatures are around 15°C - 21°C. There are occasional night frosts. Precipitation is year-round, settling at 2,000 mm per year, with a higher intensity recorded between October and March.
