Santuario de Santa Rosa de Lima, Lima
Facts and practical information
The Sanctuary of Saint Rose of Lima is a religious temple dedicated to the Catholic worship of Saint Rose of Lima. It is located in the city of Lima, capital of Peru. The temple is part of the historic center of Lima, considered since 1991 as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
It was named as a sanctuary because in that place is where Isabel Flores de Oliva, Saint Rosa de Lima, was born and lived, now converted into a beautiful religious complex with temple and monastery located in the first block of Tacna Avenue. The sanctuary was built in 1728, next to the house where Saint Rosa de Lima was born, on April 30, 1586. Her parents were Gaspar Flores, a native of Spain, a simple man of little economic means who served in the company of arquebusiers and Maria de Oliva, a Creole lady. Rosa was baptized with the name of Isabel Herrera on May 15, 1586 in the Church of San Sebastian, where St. Martin de Porres was also baptized.
