Royal Plaza is a shopping mall located in the district of Independencia in Lima, Peru. It was the first shopping center in the Northern Cone, and with this entered for the first time, several foreign franchises such as KFC, Burger King and McDonald's to this area of the city. It was inaugurated in 2001 and is located in the northern part of the city of Lima, which is one of the areas with the highest purchasing power in the city, and for this reason it was Royal Plaza, along with Mega Plaza Lima Norte, were the first two major shopping centers to open in the north of Lima. The Metro hypermarket that previously operated in this mall, inaugurated in 1997, was the establishment of Corporación Wong that generated the most revenue and the largest store of the brand. After defaults on the lease of the land, it was removed in 2008 and replaced by a Plaza Vea supermarket. Metro managed shortly after to open a store on a plot of land owned by the Ormeño group located next to the old store.
Royal Plaza has two hypermarkets Metro and Plaza Vea, movie theaters operated by Cineplanet and a food court operated by KFC, Burger King, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, etc, plus some smaller stores.
The mall was the scene of a shooting on February 17, 2017, in which five people were killed including the perpetrator.
