The Riva-Agüero Institute was created in 1947 by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and named after the politician, intellectual and great benefactor of the University: José de la Riva-Agüero y Osma. It is located in the historical center of Lima. It is a research center for human sciences that in 1955 reached the category of School of Higher Studies. It is divided into six research sections: Archaeology, Law, Ethnology, Philosophy, Language and Literature, and History.
