Facts and practical information
Craft Museum in Krosno - a museum based in Krosno. The museum is a town organizational unit and its seat is the "House under the Clock". - a tenement house from the turn of the 19th and 20th century.
The building housing the museum was built for Michal Miesowicz, a watchmaker and clock maker. Between 1901 and 1938, the building housed the First National Tower Clock Factory, which produced 280 mechanisms. The idea of opening a Craft Museum was born at the beginning of the 1980s in the circles connected with the Krosno Miscellaneous Crafts Guild. The originators of the idea were Jozef Cisowski and Tadeusz Bochenek. In 1980, the Board of the Guild asked the Krosno authorities to hand over the building. The request was met with a positive response and, after the tenants had been evicted, the renovation work started, which lasted from 1984 to 1987. A lot of construction work was done directly by Krosno craftsmen. After their completion, the facility was opened in 1990. Parallel to the renovation works, the collection of exhibits began. Many of them were donated by craftsmen from the town and its surroundings, as well as by the town authorities and the Rzeszów Crafts Chamber.
The basic exhibition of the museum is the one entitled "The History of Crafts of South-Eastern Poland". "It presents exhibits connected with the history of such crafts as carpentry, smithery, watchmaking, tailoring, weaving, shoemaking with saddlery and saddlery, hairdressing and millinery. Moreover, a chest from the seventeenth century, constituting the former guild treasury, is exposed.
Since 2006, the museum has had a Cellar under the Shadows on Market Square 5, which is used for temporary exhibitions. The institution also makes the Farna Tower - the bell tower of the Holy Trinity Collegiate Basilica - available for visiting.
The museum is a year-round facility, open except Mondays from October 1 to April 30 and daily from May 1 to September 30. There is an admission fee.
