Pomnik Bohaterom Czerwonych Sztandarów, Dąbrowa Górnicza

Monument to the Heroes of the Red Banners - a monument on Freedom Square in Dąbrowa Górnicza, unveiled in 1970.

The monument was designed by August Dyrda and unveiled on November 8, 1970.

In 1990 there were plans to destroy the monument by blowing it up with explosives. The citizens of Dąbrowa Górnicza did not allow this to happen: they painted and dedicated the monument to Jimi Hendrix. The monument was guarded by the residents day and night.

Monument with inscription: Jimi Hendrix. Kurt Cobain. Make love not war. War is over. To all those who love freedom it lasted until 2006. Then the city councillors decided to place a new plaque on it with the inscription: To the heroes of the red banners. To the heroes of the red flags. The ceremonial unveiling of the new plaque took place on May 1, 2006. The monument is included in the list of Places of National Remembrance of Silesia province.

A Jimi Hendrix bench was unveiled near the monument in 2012.

On October 27, 2018, there was another protest at the monument in response to the National Memorial Institute's stance to demolish it. The gathered residents again painted the pedestal of the monument, which was wrapped with a special material. Several hundred people participated in the renewed protest.
