Pałac Arnolda Stillera, Łódź
Facts and practical information
Arnold Stiller Palace - a historic Łódź palace located at 45 Stefana Jaracza Street.
The palace was built in 1891-1893 for the Lodz entrepreneur Arnold Stiller. The site at 75 Cegielniana Street was located opposite Stiller's and Juliusz Bielszowski's wool product factories. The architectural design of the building referred to the French and Italian Neo-Renaissance. The surviving copy of the project bears the signature of Hilary Majewski, but its authorship is disputable. Krzysztof Stefański writes about it as follows: The architecture of the building definitely resembles the works of the Berlin company "Kayser & Groszheim", and perhaps its author should be found in Berlin.
In addition to the residential building, there were also stables, a coach house, a gardener's house and an orangery. In 1899-1901, the south wing, a round staircase and a tower were added to the palace. The author of the expansion project, introducing elements of Dutch Mannerism, was David Lande. The decoration designed by Lande is described as Renaissance with a touch of Gothic forms. There are also Art Nouveau elements.
Since 1990, part of the basement is occupied by the music club "Bagdad Cafe".
