Jadernówka, Mielec
Facts and practical information
Museum of the History of Photography "Jadernówka" - a brick house in Mielec built in 1904-06 by photographer August Jaderny. Formerly the seat of his workshop and his apartment, it was a meeting place for the local artistic community of the interwar period, and during the Nazi occupation a contact point for the resistance movement. Currently it houses a branch of the Regional Museum in Mielec.
"Jadernówka" was designed by Stanisław Bronisławski as a one-storey building with one usable room in the attic. The photographic studio itself was located in a gazebo adjacent to the building, whose northern wall and part of the roof were made of glass, at the same time providing the possibility of regulating the lighting by means of roller blinds.
Since May 1987, the building has served as a museum. Since 2002, when the main seat of the Regional Museum was moved from it, the exhibitions are entirely devoted to photography. The collection comprises over 5000 exhibits and is the third largest of its kind in Poland, and the second largest in terms of photographic equipment. It includes more than 2500 photographs, mainly by August and Wiktor Jaderny, about 1300 negatives, as well as photographic equipment, including more than 220 old cameras and press and professional literature.
In 2010-2011, the building was renovated, restored, among others, the waiting room, gazebo and the inscription "Photographer" on the ridge. As of January 2019, the name has been changed to the Museum of the History of Photography "Jadernówka".
