Pomnik Agnieszki Osieckiej, Opole
Facts and practical information
Agnieszka Osiecka Monument in Opole - outdoor sculpture dedicated to the memory of Agnieszka Osiecka, the first object of its kind in Poland dedicated to her.
The statue was created on the initiative of Opole University Rector Professor Stanisław S. Niciea. The author of the sculpture is Marian Molenda, a sculptor from the Opole University Faculty of Art. The statue was unveiled on 28 May 2002 in the Opole amphitheatre during the inauguration of the Opole Festival of Polish Songs. It was planned then that it would always be there during this event, and for the rest of the year - in front of Collegium Maius, on the premises of the Opole University. The idea was abandoned and the statue was moved permanently to the University Hill.
The sculpture depicts Agnieszka Osiecka sitting on a chair with a sheet of paper on her lap and a pen in her right hand. With her left hand she is supporting her chin in her characteristic manner. Opposite her stood an empty chair, inviting visitors to spend a moment with the poet. This object is part of a larger and constantly expanding complex of sculptures, which are mainly the works of Marian Molenda, and which also commemorate: Jerzy Grotowski, Czesław Niemen and Jerzy Wasowski and Jeremi Przybora, Jonasz Kofta and Marek Grechuta. In addition to the above-mentioned, the sculptural ensemble also includes a statue of Edmund Osmanczyk, located somewhat closer to the cemetery by the nearby church "Na Górce". In the opinion of local artists and art critics, the statue of Agnieszka Osiecka is one of the best sculptural works in the city landscape.
