St. Joseph's Church in Tczew - a brick Catholic basilica in Tczew, built in 1931-1936 in modernist style.
St. Joseph Parish in Tczew was established on January 1, 1916. The first pastor was Fr Bernard Bączkowski. He converted the house of Catholic journeymen in Gdańska Street into a provisional church. On May 16, 1927 the parish was taken over by Father Wladyslaw Mlynski, who wanted to build a new church from scratch. Construction began in July 1931. The consecration took place on June 21, 1936.
The present church was designed by a Poznań architect Stefan Cybichowski. The stained glass windows were also designed by Prof. Wiktor Gosieniecki and Józef Żmijewski, both of whom were associated with Poznań. The former also designed the original painting of the church. The organ was built by W. Biernacki company from Warsaw. The magnificent altar statues are the work of Ignacy Zelka of Toruń. In the years 1952-1956 Professor Gosieniecki painted the present polychrome, as well as the Stations of the Cross. The author of mosaics and sgraffito was also Stefan Engler. In 1954 the furnishings of the chancel and side altars were made, also according to the project of prof.
In the side chapel is a plaque with the names of about 170 parishioners murdered and killed during World War II, plaques dedicated to the priests of this parish - Father B. Bączkowski and Father B. Prabucki - murdered during the German occupation, and the tomb of the prelate Wladyslaw Mlynski.
