Jaskinia Łokietka, Ojców National Park

Lokietka Cave or Lokietka Grotto - a karst cave with horizontal development in the Sąspowska Valley in the northwestern slope of Chełmowa Góra within the Ojców National Park, open to tourism.

The cave is connected with the legend of Vladislav Lokietek, who hid there for about 6 weeks after escaping from Krakow from the army of the Czech king Wenceslas II. His life was saved by a spider, which covered the cave's opening with a web, misleading the pursuit. A memento of this event are the names of the cave and its chambers, and the gate in the shape of a spider's web, closing the entrance.

A narrow rock gap 20 metres long leads to the entrance. The so-called Main Corridor leads to the Knights' Hall measuring 25 × 10 metres, from which two corridors exit: downstairs to the so-called Bedroom and the so-called Kitchen, a hall located close to the ground surface. The Bedroom is the largest room in the cave, measuring 20 × 30 metres. The dripstone decoration of Lokietek's Cave is poor, preserved only in inaccessible places. The total length of corridors and chambers is about 270 meters, the temperature is 7-8 °C.

This cave has been known for a long time. The first mention comes from the late seventeenth century, when it was called Spelunca Regia. Since the late eighteenth century it was a tourist attraction, it was visited, along with the neighboring Dark Cave, during the visits to the then popular Ojców. In 1927 it was declared a monument.

The Łokietka Cave is adapted for mass tourist traffic. There are facilitations in the form of wooden stairs, electric lighting. It is visited by more than 90 thousand people a year.
