Lodz pre-burial house - the building of the pre-burial house, which is located in the eastern part of the new Jewish cemetery in Lodz. Currently it is the largest building of this type in Poland and one of the largest in the world. The building is entered into the provincial monument register under number A/276.
The building was constructed in 1898 by the initiative and funds of Mina Konsztat - Herman's widow - who donated 18 thousand rubles for this purpose. The author of the project was architect Adolf Zeligson. The male part occupied the north side of the house, and the female part the south side.
During World War II the building was completely devastated. After the war the building was temporarily secured. For many years it was abandoned and fell into ruin. In 1987, the Nissenbaum Family Foundation began a complete renovation of the preburial house, which restored it to its former glory.
The central part of the building serves its original function, and the side rooms house the cemetery photo gallery and utility rooms. Inside the building is an original 19th century hearse.
