Cerkiew Świętych Cyryla i Metodego, Biała Podlaska
Facts and practical information
The Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius is an Orthodox parish church in Biala Podlaska. It belongs to the Biała Podlaska deanery of the Lublin-Chelm Diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
The temple was built in 1985-1989 on 19 Terebelska Street. The consecration took place on September 24, 1989. The building was erected from a private foundation of Nikifor Kuzmicki, who covered 2/3 of the investment costs, and from donations of the faithful. As a parish church in Biala Podlaska it replaced an older, wooden temple located within the neighbouring Orthodox cemetery. The temple is two-level, the patron of the lower church is St. Athanasius Brest. There is an icon with a piece of his relics in the building.
In the interior there is a contemporary iconostasis and icons from non-existent churches of Southern Podlasie. Polychromy was made by Eugeniusz Swinarczuk from Kowel in Ukraine. On the facade of the church there is a painting depicting its patrons.
Next to the church there is a parish house. The temple is surrounded by a small active cemetery - established in 1810 as a Uniate one, from 1870 - an Orthodox one, with tombstones from the 19th century and younger.
The church was extensively renovated in 2013-2014; its rededication was performed on September 21, 2014 by Archbishop Abel of Lublin and Chelm.
Near the church, on Zytnia Street, is the Center for Orthodox Culture.
