Facts and practical information
Jana Chrzciciela Church in Bielsko-Biała - a historic Evangelical-Augsburg church in Bielsko-Biała, located in the district of Old Bielsko, at Jana III Sobieskiego street. It is a parish church and belongs to Cieszyn diocese.
The church was founded by the Evangelical parish in Stare Bielsko, which was established in 1814. The cornerstone was consecrated on May 12th 1818 by superintendent Johann Georg Schmitz. The church was built in the years 1818-1827, in the south-western part of the 11th century settlement in Stare Bielsko, by the master builder Jerzy Biowski from Bielsko in classical style. In 1848 Evangelicals were allowed to build church towers, thanks to which the church was reconstructed - the temple was raised by one storey and a tower covered with a spherical cupola was added, which was consecrated in 1852. The side naves are filled on three floors with wooden galleries, typical for Protestant churches. The classical furnishings are largely from 1827. They include a low stone altar with four marble columns and statues of the four Evangelists, with a wooden pulpit above and a statue of Christ on the canopy, a late Baroque baptismal font, an organ, four crystal chandeliers funded by craftsmen's guilds
