Fabryka benzyny syntetycznej, Police
Facts and practical information
Synthetic gasoline factory in Police - one of 12 factories erected by IG Farben Industrie producing liquid fuel from coal. The gasoline was produced according to the Bergius process developed in the 1920s. The fuel was produced, among others, for the needs of the German army, since Germany did not have access to oil deposits. In 1943, the plant produced 15% of Germany's synthetic fuel. Petrol of the best quality was supplied to Luftwaffe airfields, very high quality diesel oil was intended for U-Boats, worse - for Kriegsmarine surface ships, and the full range of petrol, oils and lubricants - for tanks and Wehrmacht vehicles. By-products such as tars, soot, and wastes were destined for the pharmaceutical industry.
During World War II, on the basis of a resolution passed by the German government on 15 October 1939, Police was incorporated into the Greater Szczecin City.
Remains of the factory are located in the western part of Police, near the Police Chemical Plant north of Nowe Miasto and northwest of Stare Miasto.
