Rezerwat Zimny Dół
Facts and practical information
Zimny Dół Nature Reserve - a nature reserve in the village of Czułów in the commune of Liszki in Małopolska province.
It is a partial inanimate nature reserve, established in 1991 on an area of only 2.22 hectares.
The reserve comprises a fragment of orographically right slopes of the upper part of the Zimny Dół valley. Here you can admire large boulders with very steep walls, sometimes forming rock labyrinths. In many places on the rocks there are characteristic hoods. All these forms were created mainly as a result of karst processes. Karst origin are also caves and shelters, of which there are several in the reserve: Długi Okap, Okap za Zerwą Pierwszy, Okap za Zerwą Druga, Schronisko Małe w Zimnym Dole, Schronisko między Okapami. By practicing rock climbing and bouldering, the rocks of the reserve were divided into groups, which were given the following names: Wielka Zerwa, Głazy, Kanion, Labirynt and Przełaz. However, climbing within the reserve is prohibited.
The reserve is a major attraction not only geologically, but also in terms of nature. Its flora has a natural character. Very old specimens of flowering ivy climb up to the tree tops. In the spring, before the trees develop leaves, whole patches of helleborine, wood anemone, common anemone, full bush anemone, and among them yellow anemone, lungwort, perennial toothwort, rue, yellow goldenseal, and others bloom in the forest. There are 230 species of vascular plants in the reserve, including 21 species under strict or partial protection.
The entrance to the reserve is located next to the district road from Czułów to Baczyn, at a small crossroads next to a characteristic chapel, on the left side of which there are huge limestone walls. There is a nature trail leading through the reserve.
