Rynek Kleparski, Kraków

Rynek Kleparski - a town square in Kraków located immediately north of the Old Town, between Basztowa and St. Philip streets; once the marketplace of the town of Kleparz, now a marketplace.

It was probably laid out during the foundation of the town of Kleparz in 1366 and covered a much larger area than today, similar in size to Krakow's Main Square. The brick Kleparski Town Hall and numerous buildings connected with the market function of the square. From the square the so called "Royal Route" began, running from St. Florian's Church, through the Barbican and Florianska Gate towards Wawel.

After Kleparz was incorporated into Krakow, a decision was made to partially build up the Market Square, which lost its importance as the main town square - this plan was realised in the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century with the construction of numerous residential houses and public buildings. In 1880 the western part of the former Market Square was officially named "Rynek Kleparski" and retained its character of a popular market square. Currently, the square houses a marketplace managed by Spółiecka Kupiecka "Stary Kleparz" and its surface is built up with typical market architecture.

The Kleparski Market Square is surrounded by mainly residential buildings, with commercial functions. Distinguishing features include the neo-Gothic St. Vincent's Church with the Missionary Monastery, the "Phoenix" building.

At 4 Ignacego Paderewskiego Street, the Live Obwarzanka Museum has been operating since 2017.
