Chatka Górzystów
Facts and practical information
Chatka Górzystów - a tourist hostel located on the Jizera Mountain pasture in the Jizera Mountains. There used to be a village called Gross-Iser on this pastureland, and the building of the hostel and the woodshed standing next to it are its only remnants. The settlement was completely destroyed in the post-war years.
The hostel building was constructed around 1938 as the second school in the village. It had a main classroom with a room for a library, a room for handicrafts for boys and a kitchen for girls. The teacher and his family lived upstairs. A stable was located in today's dining room. A bell tower stood next to the school.
In 1945 the school had complete water and sewage systems and lighting in all rooms. After the war the school was devastated and stripped of most of its equipment and many structural elements. The school building was converted into a hostel by students from the College of Engineering in Zielona Góra in the mid-1980s.
