Fontanna Lwów, Poznań
Facts and practical information
Lion Fountain - a fountain located in Poznań, in the Rose Courtyard of the Imperial Castle.
Both the Courtyard and the fountain are modeled on the 13th century Lions' Courtyard at the Alhambra Palace in Spanish Granada. The whole establishment was created together with the Castle by 1910 and is an element of the Imperial Quarter.
The fountain consists of two bowls - the water flows from the upper one to the lower one, supported by figures of eight lions. The location of the fountain in the corner of the courtyard allowed for optimal use of the rest of its space during various celebrations. The whole is an example of transplanting the Neo-Mauritanian style to Central Europe.
During the communist era the surroundings of the fountain were very neglected, e.g. bus garages were located here. Later, the area was revitalized. In the immediate vicinity, there are 5 Figures by Magdalena Abakanowicz and the Katyn Monument.
