Leszno - Dworzec Mały, Leszno
Facts and practical information
Leszno Small Station - a decommissioned railroad station located in Leszno. It was located on Dworcowa Street, about 350 meters from the main station.
On 11 June 1914, with the participation of the Kingdom of Prussia, the Province of Poznan, the districts of Leszno, Górow, and Scinawa, as well as the towns of Gora, Scinawa, and Chobinia, and also with the Railway Construction Company, belonging to Lenz Co, the Leszno-Górowsko-Scinawska Kolej Mała Towarzystwo Akcyjne was established with its headquarters in Gora.
The first passenger service on the nearly 60-kilometer-long route from Leszno through Góra to Krzelów took place on 15 September 1916. The line ran in a southerly direction parallel to the tracks of line no. 271 Wroclaw Glowny - Poznan Glowny through Leszno Zaborowo station, which no longer exists today. Then it crossed the border of the province of Lower Silesia and continued to cross in S³awêcice with the state line Bojanowo - Odrzycko. From this point on, the tracks ran parallel to each other, with separate stations in S³awêcice and Gora. Beyond Gora the line turned towards the Odra and ran along it to Scinawa. In Krzelów it reached the line of the Legnica-Lawnica railroad, which led through Ścinawa to Legnica.
It is interesting to note that the line Leszno Dworzec Maly - Krzelow was closest to the Odra River in the vicinity of Luboszyce and Chobinia. However, in Chobia the station was located on the eastern side of the river, while the town was on the western side.
After the Kopanica bridge was blown up during the Wielkopolska Uprising, the line became impassable. Besides, after Poland regained its independence in 1918, the state border between Poland and Germany started to run between Laskowa and Chróscina. From 17 January 1920 the line between Leszno and Laskowa was not used and in 1922 it was demolished, which is indicated by the fact that the courses to Leszno were never resumed, even during the German occupation during World War II.
The line was called small because its parameters differed from the standards of the time, and not, as some sources state, because it was a narrow gauge line. The gauge was 1435 mm. According to the 1917 schedule, the trip from Leszno to Krzelów took 3 hours. The average train speed was therefore 20 km/h.
The Leszno-Krzelów line was served by 4 T3-series steam locomotives, 1 diesel car, 5 passenger cars, and 2 baggage cars. In addition, the line was served by freight trains.
After the liquidation of the line and the station, the building was adapted for other purposes. During the communist period it housed, among others, a hairdressing salon and a dentist's office.
