Facts and practical information
Transfiguration Church is a Roman Catholic parish church belonging to the Chelm-West deanery of the Lublin archdiocese.
The temple was built between 1731 and 1740 and founded by Barbara Dluzewska of Podowska, castellan of Chelm, and her son Stanislaw. It was consecrated on November 22, 1752 by bishop of Chelm Jozef Eustachy Szembek.
It is a brick building, erected in late Baroque style, consisting of one nave with two bays, built on a rectangular plan. The exterior side walls are supported by massive slanting scarps. A low rectangular porch is added to the church's façade. The gable roof is topped with a little bell tower with a slender Baroque cupola. The church equipment represents late Baroque and Rococo styles. Elements of these styles are visible in the altars, pulpit, baptistery, organ, sculpture of Christ, angels and paintings.
