Mała Sobótka, Wrocław
Facts and practical information
Little Sobótka - an artificially created hill on the Grabiszynek estate in Wrocław with an absolute height of 136 m above sea level. By the inhabitants of the city is also often called "Górka Skarbowców" because of the street with that name.
Little Sobotka was created at the end of the 19th century from the surplus land intended for the construction of the embankment of the railroad freight ring road. The initiator of the creation of the artificial hill was Breslauer Verschönerungsverein. Since the beginning of its existence it has been used for recreation, in summer as a place for games and walks, in winter as a toboggan hill, and formerly as a ski slope. Initially, Little Sobotka was a vantage point where one could see the full panorama of the Sudetes. However, as a result of building up the nearby housing estates and obscuring the view by growing trees, the hill lost its scenic qualities. On the top of the hill there was a wooden pavilion, which was destroyed in later years and was never rebuilt.
On the northern slope of Mala Sobótka the stream Grabiszynka has its source.
The park assumptions of the "Górka Skarbowców" area, including the Treasury Hill and the surrounding green area, were deemed in need of protection and entered in the register of monuments on 12 September 2005 under No. 570/A/05.
