Pomnik 15 południk
Facts and practical information
15th Meridian Monument in Stargard - a monument marking the course of the 15th meridian of eastern longitude, located on Szczecinska Street, near the 15th Meridian traffic circle.
The monument was erected in the interwar period. It is in the form of an erratic stone with a grid of meridians and parallels on top and a plaque stating that Stargard lies exactly 15 degrees east of the Prime Meridian, which runs through the London suburb of Greenwich and is the basis for Central European Time. In 1996 the monument was restored.
The area around the monument is landscaped and surrounded by a wreath of 6 chestnut trees.
Although the monument is called the 15th Meridian, it is actually located about 200 meters west of the meridian. This is due to inaccurate surveying equipment at the time the monument was set.
The monument and its surroundings are subject to conservation protection.
