Kościół pw. św. Józefa, Opalenica
Facts and practical information
Saint Joseph's Church in Opalenica is one of the Roman Catholic churches in the town of Opalenica in Greater Poland Province. It belongs to Bukk decanate. It is located in the western part of the town, on Powstańców Wielkopolskich Street.
The church was built in 1895 or 1900 by the local German Evangelical community and served them until 1945. The construction was financed by funds from the Gustav Adolphus Society and a donation from the local sugar factory. Since 1981 the church has been the seat of the Catholic parish of St. Joseph.
The church was built with readily available materials: brick, clinker and stone. It was built on a solid granite foundation with cement-lime mortar. A type of gallery was used in the interior to enlarge the space for worship attendees. A much lower sacristy adjoins the main body on the southwest side. The roofs were covered with slate, which lasted for 92 years. A single wooden door leads to the temple.
The church is entered in the register of historic buildings in Opalenica under the number: 2247/A of 10.09.1992
