Jewish Cemetery
Facts and practical information
Jewish cemetery in Jarosław - was established in 1699 at the present Kruhel Pawłosiowski Street on land purchased from the local Catholic parish. In 1869 it was devastated during anti-Semitic riots. The devastation was repeated during World War II, when the Nazis demolished the preburial house and the wall of the necropolis and used the matzevot for paving roads and the courtyard of the Benedictine Abbey in Jarosław, which was turned into a Gestapo prison. The cemetery has the area of 1.85 ha. In the necropolis there were also buried Holocaust victims. Today there are several dozen matzevot left, mostly from the early 20th century. The leaders of Jarosław Chasidim, Zachorie Mendel, Menechem Zew and Szymon Elbaum, rest there.
