Facts and practical information
Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an Orthodox parish church located in Rozdel, in the Gorlice Decanate of the Przemyśl-Ogorlice Diocese of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
The temple differs a bit in its architecture from a typical Lemko Orthodox church. It is wooden, tripartite building, with a log construction. Ridge roofs covered with sheet metal.
The original shape of the church is due to the fact that it was moved to Rozdziela only in 1985. The temple was built in 1756 in the village of Serednica near Ustrzyki Dolne, where it remained for over 200 years. After the beginning of the Operation 'Wisła' and displacement of the inhabitants of Serednica the church started to fall into ruins. Thanks to the efforts of the Orthodox believers from Serednica, with considerable help of Archbishop Adam, the church was moved to a new place and renovated. The consecration of the renovated church took place on 24 August 1986. The whole operation of moving the church, part of the equipment and the bell were financed by Lemkos living in the United States of America. In the mid-1990s a tall, free-standing bell tower was built next to the church, also thanks to the financial support of Lemkos from the United States of America.
Inside the church there is an iconostasis from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which, like the whole building, comes from Serednica. Icons in the church, however, are only modern copies, because the originals were stolen soon after the relocation of the temple.
The whole area of the church is fenced with a wooden fence, covered with a tin roof.
The church is located in the southern part of the village, by the road to Wapienne. Services are held every Sunday. The patronal feast is celebrated on September 21.
The temple was entered in the Register of Historic Places on January 31, 1985 under the number A-58.
