Facts and practical information
Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Złotów is a Roman Catholic parish church in the town of Złotów. It belongs to Złotów I deanery. It is located at Panny Marii Street.
It is an early baroque building built between 1661-1664, founded by Andrzej Karol Grudzinski, governor of Poznan. The temple was erected on the site of a wooden building from 1619, destroyed during the Swedish Deluge.
It is a building built on the plan of a Latin cross, with one nave and two chapels - St. Anne's and Our Lady of the Rosary. The church is equipped with five richly decorated altars, including the most important one - the main altar with the painting "Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary", made by Paulus Hack from Antwerp. The pulpit and the baptismal font are also monuments. The polychrome was made in 1964-1966 by Anna and Leonard Torwirt. In 1850 a free-standing bell tower was added to the church.
Under the chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary there are two crypts with the remains of the parents of Andrzej Karol Grudzinski and his 3 year old son. Worth seeing is the metal coffin in which the child was buried. It is decorated with a unique in Poland child's coffin portrait. The crypt can be visited.
